Last Day in Bath: a hug and a prayer and another God-thing!

With a late train this afternoon, I packed my suitcase and left it at the hotel to retrieve later. Off walking to see the Circus and the Royal Crescent, both architectural wonders from the 19th century.

But first a stop at WH Smith’s, the local stationer and post office. I am sending home a package of some of the books I bought, not much really but even a few pounds difference is huge when trying to get these bags around. So after waiting at least 20 minutes in line, I mailed the package and just as I was finishing, they closed the post office suddenly. Some kind of repair — electrical? Computer? Who knows? But those poor people standing in line got sent away since they said they don’t know when they will reopen. Clearly the Lord is watching out for me!

I am walking along the high street called Union and meet up with a woman who works for Alzheimer’s fund raising. We had a nice talk. She noticed my cross necklace and asked if I am a Christian. She says she knows because I have a glow about me. Door open! Yes! She is too, but says she has wandered but will be rededicating her life to the Lord and getting baptized soon. Another young person seeking their way in the world and feeling the pull of the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord! As her break ended, she gave me a hug. I gave her some words of encouragement and will continue to pray for her as for the many others God brings into my path.

Making my way up the hill to the Circus, I encounter another young woman who works for Centre Point, a group that prevents teen homelessness. She is so passionate about her mission. What a fun and caring person she is! Erica who seems very open to hearing about the Lord. I told her I will pray about making a donation to this organization since I already support many of these at home. I shared with her about homelessness and the different places I volunteered in the US. Similar problems, similar situations exist here. It does break my heart but I do believe their approach is a good one: if you can divert teens from going into homelessness, they have a better chance in future. They offer housing vouchers, education, schooling, and help finding jobs.

As I depart, I ask her if I can pray with her. She says sure, so I asked the Lord to bless her and her work and to give her His love to share with others. The Holy Spirit at work in Bath!

I did make it to the top of the hill to see the Circus and the Royal Crescent. Amazing buildings but all private residences so you can’t really go inside. Very posh, as they say here! There is a very nice park and lots of people enjoying the warm weather. The walk back to the hotel is without interruption, so off I go to the train station and the next leg of my journey!
